Integrated All-H Salmon Management

What is Integrated All-H Management and Why is it Important?

Integrated All-H management of salmon and steelhead means coordinating decision-making about the H's-- hatcheries, harvest, and habitat-- to meet agreed-upon salmon conservation and harvest objectives.

In the past, decisions about the H's tended to be made according to discipline, and in isolation from one another. This "silo" approach was effective when the resource was abundant and when the efficient delivery of a fishing season was the primary objective.

But today, with the health of wild salmon in serious trouble, the focus of salmon management has necessarily shifted from allocating an abundant resource to recovering a species at risk of extinction, while also honoring treaty agreements and continuing to provide sport and recreational fishing opportunities.

This shift has prompted scientists, resource managers, and community leaders to call for an All-H approach to decision-making about salmon and steelhead.  Long Live the Kings is working to answer their call by helping those with the authority and responsibility to manage salmon develop and implement the tools that will enable them to coordinate their decisions.
