The US Fish and Wildlife Service Aims to Make Hatchery Reform it's Official Policy

Since July 2005, LLTK has provided facilitation, coordination, and strategic planning for the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Pacific Region Federal Hatchery Review.

The goal of the Pacific Region Federal Hatchery Review is to make hatchery reform, as conceived by the Hatchery Scientific Review Group during the Puget Sound and Coastal Washington Hatchery Reform Project, the official policy of the USFWS for all federally-operated and federally-funded salmon hatcheries.

Applying the Principles of Reform to all Federal Facilities in the Columbia Basin

To date, the USFWS Review Team has reviewed and published final assessments and recommendations for all 15 federally-owned hatcheries in the Pacific Region. The team has also drafted it's recommendations for the 9 federally-funded Lower Snake River Compensation Plan facilities.

The team's recommendations, which range from minor programmatic adjustments, to discontinuation of some programs entirely, can be viewed and downloaded by visiting the USFWS Pacific Region Federal Hatchery Review website. The Pacific Region Federal Hatchery Review will conclude in June, 2010.
