LLTK Roundtable: Salmon Recovery in Hood Canal
Posted on: August 11th, 2010

In the second installment of LLTK's virtual Roundtable, participants weigh-in on the subject of salmon recovery in Hood Canal. What will it take for recovery efforts there to be successful and lasting?
LLTK has been working to recover threatened salmon and steelhead in Hood Canal since 1993. We are currently involved in several projects, with an array of partnering organizations, aimed at implementing an integrated recovery approach in the Canal-one in which hatchery, harvest, and habitat actions work in harmony.
In order to open a community dialogue about what it will take for these efforts to be successful, we assembled a new panel of LLTK Roundtable participants and asked them to weigh-in on the topic.
Our panelists represent seven different agencies and organizations; they have each had, and continue to have, important roles in shaping the protection and recovery of salmon in Hood Canal, and of the land and waters on which the fish depends. Each has a unique perspective, but all share the recognition that we must work together.
While LLTK does not necessarily endorse the views expressed by our Roundtable respondents, we feel that success in Hood Canal will hinge on our ability to thoughtfully hear and consider one another's concerns, and to work together towards creating a recovery strategy that is informed and made stronger by the testing and cross-linking of our differences. We hope you are both challenged and inspired by the conversation.
