From River to Plate: 35 Aspiring Chefs Make the Connection

On April 29th, LLTK's Lilliwaup Hatchery hosted a group of 35 student chefs from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). The visit was the fourth that the CIA has made to Lilliwaup, as part of their two-week coursework in sustainable food systems.

Spring at Lilliwaup: Summer Chum Program Extended and Creek Restoration Planning Begins

Spring is always a busy time at Lilliwaup Creek Hatchery, as staff participate in field activities related to steelhead, summer chum, and Chinook recovery. This spring is particularly action-packed, marked by the extension of our summer chum program, and the start of a new project to develop a habitat restoration plan for Lilliwaup Creek.

Spring at Glenwood: Marking and Tagging Coho and Chinook for Selective Fishing

Glenwood Springs Hatchery provides sport and commercial fishing opportunities in northern Puget Sound and southern Georgia Strait through its Chinook and coho programs. Marking and tagging these fish is a key operational aspect of Glenwood Hatchery. We began our 2010 marking and tagging season in late April and will continue through mid-May.

LLTK Helping to Bring Kokanee Salmon to Orcas Island's Cascade Lake

For the past three years, a partnership between the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), Moran State Park, and Long Live the Kings (LLTK) has aimed to introduce a new stock of hatchery-reared kokanee to Orcas Island's Cascade Lake.

The article makes the case for why collaborative approaches hold the most promise for addressing the environmental challenges that confront us 40 years after Earth Day.

Steelhead in Peril: Will you help save our State Fish?

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to ask for your support in recovering steelhead—the Washington State Fish. At this moment, wild steelhead are in peril statewide, with five different populations listed as “threatened” under the federal Endangered Species Act. It is essential that we act now to stabilize wild steelhead populations before they disappear entirely.

Former LLTK Board Member Sally Yozell Named NOAA Policy Director

NOAA announced Feb 23 that Sally Yozell, LLTK Board Member from 2001 to 2005, would join the agency as Director of Policy and Senior Advisor to Administrator Jane Lubchenco. We wish Sally all the best as she takes on this exciting new opportunity.
