It has been a milestone year for Long Live the Kings: we embarked on an exciting new phase of work with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to support that work, and celebrated our 20th anniversary as an innovator in salmon and steelhead recovery.
In the past two decades LLTK has progressed from a single fish-rearing workshop aimed at reviving wild Chinook runs, to operating three cutting-edge facilities as models for how hatcheries can be used as centerpieces of salmon recovery. From 2000-2005 we were designated by Congress to provide third-party facilitation for the landmark Puget Sound and Coastal Washington Hatchery Reform Project. In early 2006 we began a partnership with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife on the 21st Century Salmon and Steelhead Initiative, becoming the only NGO working to help a natural resource agency create a new model for salmonid management. LLTK’s ability to continually re-imagine the ways in which we might best serve our twin goals of recovering wild salmon and supporting sustainable fisheries has been due in no small part to the generous and dedicated support of our many friends, donors, partners, and Board members. More than 150 of you helped us to celebrate the last 20 years at our November birthday dinner and it was truly a thrill for all of us on staff to share this important anniversary with you. If you missed the party, you can check out event photos on our website.
I wish to thank you for helping us to make the past 20 years of work possible and to wish you and yours a joyous holiday season and every happiness in the New Year.
